Most of the artistes in this week’s picks aren’t household names just yet, but there’s plenty of potential for them to make it big.
College student and Wu-Tang Management signee Scott Isbell speaks out on his political beliefs through this song dedicated to Donald Trump, in which Isbell claims to have been “Trumpified” by the presidential candidate’s drive and sophisticated persona. Before you label Isbell a Republican, read his blog entry while keeping this song on loop, and who knows, you might find yourself “Trumpified” too.
Set against thumping background beats, Blackbear (real name Matthew Musto) lets his songwriting skills shine as he croons ever so gently. The Los Angeles-based singer may not be as well-known as his contemporaries, but he’s written songs for a whole bunch of artistes, Justin Bieber being one of them. Keep an eye out for him.
Jess Glynne shot onto the scene as the one-off vocalist for Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”, and now the English singer lays down her raw emotions in “Take Me Home”, a single from her debut album I Cry When I Laugh. “This is a song about the need to have someone who cares when you are at your most vulnerable. It’s an emotional song for me and I have to admit it brought me to tears filming the video, not because I was sad but because I was so grateful that I had someone to get me out of the dark hole I was in,” she told her fans on Facebook.
From Kanye West’s upcoming album, Swish, comes this upbeat track that has Kendrick Lamar’s vocals woven into it. West may be tied up these days with his commitments outside the music scene, but the rapper has not lost his pace at all, as he spews phrase after phrase within those sacred six minutes. February 11th is the tentative release date for Swish, and West will definitely be looking to wow listeners with his latest work.
Little is known about SFire, but the R&B singer from New Jersey has been steadily pushing his hits via SoundCloud. The music business is all about hustling, and SFire’s extensive playlist shows he’s all about that life.
