Adidas offers two types of headphones: the FWD-01 Sport In-Ear and the RPT-01 Sport On-Ear. For this review, we trained, ran and commuted with the in-ear FWD-01 Sport for two weeks – here’s what we found.
Running and training with the Adidas FWD-01 In-Ear is fuss-free. Power the headphones up and it’ll sync with your phone in seconds. The tangle-free cords don’t get in the way and the earbuds stay in place while training or running. Taking calls with the Adidas headphones is also easy, the connection is stable and the audio quality is clear.
Overall, the Adidas FWD-01 Sport In-Ear headphones are a great companion for people on the go. The earbuds are not as lightweight as say, the Apple AirPods, but once plugged into the ears, their weight can barely be felt. Priced at S$249, these are a worthy contender where it comes to sports headphones. That the headphones come with 16 hours of playtime is a bonus.
Fit
The earbuds come with ear wings that you can flick into the concha of the ear to secure the earbuds in place. Each set comes with four interchangeable ear tips and wings of varying sizes.
A key feature is the lightweight and knitted cord, on which the control buttons are found. The sporty-looking cord, bearing resemblance to shoelaces, features the Adidas three stripes logo – a cool touch, especially for fans of the brand.
Post-workout, unplug the earbuds and let them hang over your shoulders. To wear the FWD-01 round-the-neck, bring the earbuds to meet in the middle and let the magnets in the earbuds snap them both together, forming a pendant of sorts.
Function
To pair your phone with the headphones, download the Adidas Headphones app. The app dashboard lets you see how much battery is left in your headphones. This is also where you can customize the buttons on the cord.
There are three control buttons on the right side of the cord. These are used to turn the device on or off, increase or decrease the volume, or skip to the next track. On the left side of the cord is a single button that is customizable to perform three different actions, triggered by one, two, or three clicks.
The sound quality is good, and while these aren’t entirely noise cancelling, they do the job to block out enough ambient noise. Audiophiles can also opt to tweak the equalizer – there are a few pre-sets on the app: “Adidas”, “Pop”, “Rock”, “Hip-Hop”; but there’s also the option to customize, just hit “Custom”.
The Adidas FWD-01 In-Ear headphones retail for S$249 at the TC Acoustic Showroom and its online store tcacoustic.asia, Challenger stores, Lazada and Amazon.sg. You can also check out the RPT-01 Sport On-Ear (S$299) at these outlets.
