Nike will release their first sustainably made AJ1 in August

Nike is putting a “Space Hippie” spin on the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom.

The Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Space Hippie” is ready for Mars, with a drop date set for August 12.

Nike’s “Space Hippie” collection was the brand’s venture into creating a fully sustainably made sneaker. Inspired by the restrictions of a Mars exploration, Nike wanted to create sneakers that were made of scraps and junk that were found around their factories. The Swoosh is now applying that design concept to their upcoming Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Space Hippie”.

The high top, basketball sneaker sees a departure from its classic leather upper. This time, it comes with a grey fabric upper. Features like the ankle collar, lace eyelets and Swoosh are made of a matte black fabric stitched on to the upper. To add a pop of color, bright red stitching outlines the sneaker’s heel cap. As a play on its trashy, deconstructed origins, foam around the tongue and ankle collar are left exposed.

The upper sits on a midsole and outsole with specks of Nike Grind rubber. This could be an indication that the midsole and outsole are constructed out of recycled rubber and foam – just like the Space Hippie 02. However, with the Air Jordan 1, we see a more refined implementation. No bulges or loose bits falling off the midsole, like the midsoles seen on the Space Hippie sneakers.

The Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Space Hippie” is slated to drop on August 12. If the “Space Hippie” collection is any indication, we should see these Air Jordan 1s selling out quickly.
