Besides the iPhone 7 that everyone’s been waiting eagerly for, see what else Apple pulled from its bag of tricks at this year’s launch event.
Apple has released a new iPhone year-on-year, and 2016 proves to be no different. The long-awaited iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have finally been unveiled, and affirming the rumors that swirled months ago, the headphone jack has officially been removed. Apple-heads will have to plug their wired headphones to the Lightning port via an adaptor, or move on to wireless headphones altogether.
Featuring a new A10 Fusion chip, the smartphones also have an improved 12-megapixel camera. In particular, the 7 Plus has an additional camera that comes with optical zoom, and both cameras can be used simultaneously to capture photos with depth-of-field effect.
The new phones are water and dust resistant, and Apple ditches the Space Grey option on the iPhone 7, while adding Black and Jet Black colors for both models.
Prices for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus start at S$1,048, with Singapore officially launching the phones on September 16th.
Apple wouldn’t throw out the headphone jack without good reason, hence the launch of the new wireless AirPods. The headphones automatically control music playback, thanks to automatic sensors embedded within the unit.
Double-tapping on the AirPods activates Siri, but for audiophiles, the inclusion of the Apple W1 chip for richer sound quality remains the biggest draw factor.
The AirPods will retail for S$238 from late October onwards.
Wearable devices remain popular among general consumers, and the Apple Watch Series 2 builds on the success of its predecessor to cater to the crowd. A built-in GPS lets the watch run as a standalone device, and a water resistance of 50 meters means it can be worn for most water sports activities.
Processing power and graphics performance have been ramped up, and a display that’s twice as bright as the first Apple Watch means no more squinting to make out what’s on the watch face.
Oh, and for those who’re still hooked on Pokémon Go, guess what, the hit game will soon be playable on Apple Watch. Yes, the Pokémon craze won’t come to an end just yet.
Prices for the Apple Watch Series 2 start at S$548, with availability in Singapore slated for September 16th.
Nike Sport Bands now pair with the new Apple Watch Series 2, but fresh aesthetics are merely the tip of the iceberg. The Apple Watch Nike+ will have exclusive Siri commands and new Nike watch faces that integrate with the Nike+ Run Club app. All the more reason to head out for a run.
Last but not least, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto made a special appearance at the Apple Special Event, announcing that the Nintendo video game Super Mario Run will be available for iOS. This signals a major shift for Nintendo, which has long avoided embracing mobile devices as a platform for its video games to shine. Keep a look out for Super Mario Run on the app store.
