High Time for an Apple Watch?

Last week, Apple gave the world a first look at the Apple Watch, what it has referred to as its most personal device ever. The gadget tells the time, tracks your appointments, your fitness – your life. Here’s a look at the most exciting, all-new Apple product to date.

Apple often gets flak for reinventing the wheel, especially whenever it releases a new iteration of the iPhone. Last week, as it announced that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be slated for release on Friday, September 19th, it also unveiled its first all-new Apple product in a long time – the Apple Watch – a good distraction from the iPhones 6 and 6 Plus, which tech media have basically labeled “same same but different” as the iPhone 5S.

Apple Watch comes in three distinct collections: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition and is available in two sizes – 38mm and 42mm. The watch enclosure comes in either polished or space black stainless steel, space grey or silver anodized aluminum, or 18-karat rose or yellow gold. There are also various straps to choose from, whether it’s the Sport Band for lifestyle activities, the leather Modern Buckle for the boardroom or the Milanese Loop for a elegant evening dinner.

Beyond aesthetics, the Apple Watch comes with a host of functions that will make users reach for their iPhones less. Taking a phone call, replying a message and getting fast access to information like current location are all a cinch on the Apple Watch. Embracing a healthy lifestyle has never been easier too, thanks to the built-in heart-rate sensor, accelerometer and GPS that, coupled with the Activity and Workout apps, provide comprehensive information on daily activities like distances covered and calories burned. Lastly, app developers will be able to create native apps for the Apple Watch, giving potential to a whole load of new experiences yet unseen.

Can’t wait to slip the Apple Watch around your wrist? You just have to wait a wee bit longer before it’s out in the market. The Apple Watch will be available from early 2015, with prices to start from US$349.
