Asics Art In Motion collection: Celebrating creative expression in Southeast Asia

Asics introduces the limited edition Art In Motion collection in Singapore, made in collaboration with three Southeast Asian artists, Irin from Thailand, Tobyato from Singapore, and Kenji Chai from Malaysia.

Asics ‘Art in Motion’ artists: Irin from Thailand wears her Japan S; Tobyato from Singapore sports his Novablast; Kenji Chai from Malaysia rocks his Gel-1130.

The Asics Art In Motion collection is a three-piece pack created in collaboration with Southeast Asian artists who reimagined three iconic Asics sneakers — Kenji Chai from Malaysia put his spin on the Gel-1130; Irin from Thailand interprets the Japan S, and Tobyato from Singapore puts his finishing touches on the Novablast.

Launching April 28, the Asics silhouettes have become the canvas on which these artists can showcase their craft, while honoring their personal and artistic journeys. The end result is art that you can wear!

Model: Gel-1130 by Kenji Chai
Approx. price: S$189

Malaysian graffiti artist Kenji reference his iconic alter ego “Chaigo” inspired by street dogs in his take on the Gel-1130. Kenji draws inspiration from the animations, comics and storybooks of his childhood, as evidenced by the clean lines, simple patterns, and vibrant colors. In developing the colorway for his Gel-1130, Kenji references Chaigo’s iconic pairing of camo prints, teal blue, and neon orange color scheme.

Model: Japan S by Irin
Approx. price: S$149

Multihyphenate artist Irin Ariyatanaporn (Ann) applies her detailed and intricate doodles to the Japan S, Asics’ iconic heritage basketball sneaker. The sneakers are designed to replicate the colors and materials seen on basketball courts as a nod to the heritage of the Japan S. The sneaker features traditional leather construction while the overlays have been designed to mirror the texture and color of smooth modern basketballs. The final touches are the cream graphics, vectors and outsole that replicate the colors of the hardwood floor of basketball courts. This detailed approach makes Irin’s Japan S an art piece dedicated to the history of basketball.

Model: Novablast by Tobyato
Approx. price: S$229

Tobyato’s Novablast draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese motifs of Yin and Yang. His design balances out the bold hits of black with white. While so creating a perfect synergy between the prints that cover the mesh upper of the runner. The defining element of the sneaker is the pops of pink on the Asics logo, tongue tab, and outsole that the pairs carry.
