Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons (CDG) have no boundaries when working on sneakers. Following up their revival of the Air Presto Foot Tent, the Japanesehas once again put their unique twist on a familiar silhouette. The CDG x Air Jordan 1 seen at Paris Fashion Week is another masterpiece from Kawakubo and company.
Channeling inner city biker vibes, the Air Jordan 1 has never seen modifications like this from any collaboration. Complete with a buckle strap, metal rings and studs, and an all-black colorway, the collaborative sneaker exudes rebellion and angst. Finished with a leather upper and extended tongue, the CDG x Air Jordan 1 fits in seamlessly with the traditional biker look.
At the moment it is not clear if the sneaker will be released for retail or is just a one-off for the runway show. Nonetheless, the idea of Jordan Brand working with luxury fashion houses will excite sneakerheads worldwide. This may just be another step towards an imminent bridging of high fashion and streetwear.
There is not much information on the CDG x Air Jordan 1 as of now, but watch this space for updates.
