Giphy showcased the evolution of GIFs as a new medium for gallery-worthy art pieces.
Bringing animated virtual images to reality, the GIF search engine looped in 25 artists for a one-day showcase of how GIFs are the next big thing in the realm of art.
“We like to think of a GIF more as a medium than a format,” Ari Spool, a community curator at Giphy, told Wired.
To that end, it has started a new endeavor known as Giphy Arts, where the community will work to promote GIFs as a futuristic art form.
The image file format may have been around for decades, but its popularity will rise once the initiative catches on with more artists around the world presenting their craft in GIF.
