A “What To Do Ah?” Guide to the Long SG50 Weekend

A long holiday like this SG50 weekend is hard to come by, so don’t get caught twiddling your thumbs at home. Head out and have fun at any (or all) of these events we’ve lined up just for you.

Thursday, August 6th

LIMPEH Show

Inspired by the mixed emotions expressed by both Singaporean and non-Singaporeans alike in the wake of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s death, artist Sam Lo (SKL0) pays tribute to the man’s legacy through a myriad of artworks. This also signifies the closure of the “Sticker Lady” saga and a new beginning for SKL0. Bring along some cash, as limited edition LIMPEH tees and sticker packs will be available for purchase during the exhibition launch.

Time: 7.30pm till late
Venue: The Substation Gallery (45 Armenian Street, Singapore 179936)

100+50 Festival

100 local bands and 50 electronic and DJ acts will be taking the stage at Bedok Reservoir this weekend (and the next) to showcase their talent and spread the word about the rapidly growing local music community. Genres from rock to indie, electronic, and even some soul will be featured. Who knows, you might spot the next big thing there. Head on down and listen for yourself.

Time: 7pm to 10.30pm
Venue: Bedok Reservoir

Good Times x Phyla Digital

It’s no mere coincidence that the August edition of Good Times falls on this long holiday weekend. Teaming up with homegrown label, Phyla Digital, expect an eclectic mix of bass and beats from the label’s roster of producers and selectors, including Jaydah, Fzpz, Harv, Fauxe and Finding Niko. Icing on the cake includes visuals by Sysstm and words from the straight-talking MC Roz.

Time: 10pm till late
Venue: BluJaz Cafe (12 Bali Lane, Singapore 189848)

Kyō presents We Love SōKO

Underground parties are still the rage, what more one that’s situated at the heart of Singapore? Head to the basement of Keck Seng Tower, where SōKO residents DJ Dan Stoneman, Alex Helme, & Benny Campbell await at kyō with their pulsating bass lines. RSVP here for complimentary entry before midnight.

NoPartyHere x The Powder Room: Darius

Don’t want your ears ringing with overzealous national day songs this SG50 weekend? Come down to The Powder Room on Saturday and wind down with French electronic act, Darius, brought in by the folks at NoPartyHere. Known for his distinctive “Darius touch”, expect a night of disco and funk overlaid with his smooth underground intricacy and ready your ears for chill tunes and the deep thump of disco beats as you walk through the door with a cocktail in hand.

Time: 9pm till late
Venue: The Powder Room (19 Cecil Street, Singapore 049704)

Boleh Juga

A continuation of the Good Times x Phyla Digital party, Boleh Juga has, in their own words, “curated a shit-hot lineup” that includes RAH from Darker Than Wax, Intriguant from Syndicate and Reiki. As with any event organized by Good Times, clothing is optional, so just bring the good vibes and they’ll take care of the rest. Boleh?

Time: 10pm till late
Venue: KOI Brunch + Beats (8 Circular Road, Singapore 049364)

Velvet Underground – Dance x Moonbeats Asia present The Deep End with Cyril Hahn & Zushan

Velvet Underground Dance and Moonbeats Asia present the third edition of The Deep End, bringing in Vancouver’s rising producer Cyril Hahn with support provided by our very own Zushan. Hahn has been rising through the ranks and making a name for himself, with a sick blend of R&B tunes and chlled-out bedroom beats that have helped him get signed by heavyweight label PMR Records.

Time: 11pm till late
Venue: The Deep End SG (17 Jiak Kim Street, Singapore 169420)

Sunday, August 9th

SG50 Street Party

Haji Lane is definitely in on the SG50 celebrations, with peeps like Nutty Rudy, Ulysses, Daryl C and Cats on Crack heading to KOI to dish out some fresh beats. You won’t even have to search high and low for food, as complimentary teriyaki chicken stew will be served all day long.

Time: 4pm till late
Venue: KOI Bangers + Izakaya (9 Haji Lane, Singapore 189202)

Your Grandfather’s Birthday

Couldn’t get tickets to the National Day Parade? Your next best bet would be this rooftop party, where you can celebrate SG50 with smokin’ hot satays on the grill. No sing-a-long national day songs here, but plenty of groovy beats that will get you in the mood for some dance.

Time: 6pm till late
Venue: Loof (Odeon Towers, 331 North Bridge Road, #03-07, Singapore 188720)
