In less than 24 hours, the Hello Kitty x Nike Air Presto is set to drop on the Sanrio and Nike websites. Fans can get launch reminders if they enter their email on the Sanrio page.
Cute, but not overbearing. The heel showcases Hello Kitty’s face, which can be spotted from far away. The sole depicts a picturesque view of Hello Kitty’s world, giving the wearer a sense of adventure while wearing it.
A whole outfit for you and your loved ones. Other than shoes that come in full family sizing, the Hello Kitty and Nike collaboration include a line of hoodies, pants, and tops.
Why the demand? The sneaker saw a very limited release in 2004 – so limited only friends and family of the brand got to cop a pair. This built a cult following around the collaboration, becoming super coveted sneaker among Sanrio, Hello-Kitty and sneaker collectors.
In 2004, five colorway was dropped, with only 12 pairs made for each design.
Difficult but not impossible, Singaporean shoe collector Timothy Suen managed to cop the 2004 Hello Kitty Air Prestos. He had scored the pair from another Singaporean collector and found it using Instagram hashtag search features. “When I look for particular shoes I’ll search hashtags such as #hellokittyprestos and sometimes it works.” In 2022, he continues to sing praises about the Air Presto, “been a fan of the Presto silhouette because of their comfort and their history.”
Not the first and hopefully not the last. We hope to see Nike working with the famous Sanrio’s Hello Kitty character again soon with more shoes the next time. Sanrio Hello Kitty has also worked with Converse, Puma, and Casio.
