Last week, Virgil Abloh unveiled his FW21 collection with Louis Vuitton titled ‘Ebonics / Snake Oil / The Black Box / Mirror, Mirror’. The Fall Winter 21 collection and the accompanying multi-disciplinary artist representation explored the topic “Tourist vs Purist”—confronting the perspective differences between the outsider and the insider, challenging archetypes in social narratives, its influence on our outlook and perceptions of other people.
The digital runway set was in a studio in the Tennis Club de Paris accompanied by select shots taken at a snowy hillside in Switzerland. The Fall/Winter 21 collection paints an eclectic picture that references eurocentric tailoring and streetwear. Some pieces that pair African-inspired textile prints and scarves are a clear nod to Abloh’s Ghanaian heritage.
