The Atari VCS – or Video Computer System- represents a rebirth of the arcade game company’s classic entertainment console of the 70s. Atari will apparently release two editions of the console – one inspired by the original and another modern Black/Red iteration.
The retro-inspired iteration looks strikingly identical to the original with wooden accents, bar the sleeker edges and design. The Black/Red modern iteration, on the other hand, features a glass panel. An Atari console, of course, would not be complete without the Classic Joystick, but the latest iteration will also come with a Modern Controller to boot.
A console geared towards the modern consumer
The Atari VCS may pack all the classic content, but it is so much more than just a reboot. According to the Pocket-lint, the console’s operating system is of an open nature and will be able to support a range of games which includes older and newer ones. The set will also offer apps and access to streaming, social, web browsing, and music among others.
The comprehensive concept covers an array of entertainment options and looks promising for now. Whether Atari delivers a full-on immersive experience is one to ponder about when it actually hits the shelves. The console could be available for pre-order as early as April 2018.
