The 990 was introduced in 1982, after four years of development aimed at building the best running shoe possible. It quickly set a new standard for quality and performance, and became the first running shoe to break the US$100 barrier.
Over the years, it has grown far beyond the track. Marathoners, fashionistas and comfort enthusiasts all wear it – it’s loved by supermodels in London and dads in Ohio alike. Each version has honored the original while moving the franchise forward, and the 990v7 is no different.
New Balance describes the design philosophy behind the 990v7 as “memories from the future.” In practice, that means a silhouette you’ll recognize instantly, with subtle updates to proportion, layering and construction for a more streamlined look.
The upper is crafted in the United States from pigskin suede, breathable mesh, refined leather accents and synthetic suede sway bars. Underfoot is a softer version of the FuelCell midsole introduced with the 990v6, which brings enhanced cushioning and energy return. ENCAP technology, the signature CR device and a new TPU midfoot shank add stability and guidance. The result is a more dynamic ride, while keeping the balanced comfort and style the 990 is known for.
The launch is backed by a global campaign featuring New Balance ambassadors IU, ROSALÍA, Josh Allen and Cooper Flagg, who span music, sport, entertainment and fashion.
The New Balance Made in USA 990v7 launches on November 6 at newbalance.com.sg and in stores at New Balance Jewel Changi, Paragon, VivoCity, Suntec City and ION Orchard. It retails for S$289 per pair.
