Nike Mars Yard 2.5 rumored to drop end of this year

According to Instagram leaks, a Nike Mars Yard 2.5 will drop at the end of 2020.

Rumors about a Mars Yard update have been circulating for a while now. In May 2020, @soleheatonfeet revealed that the silhouette will be called Nike Mars Yard 2.5. Similar to prior iterations, the sneaker was rumored to come in a “Particle Beige/Sport Red” colorway.

Further confirmation came when @halfgallery’s Bill Powers posted an early look at the space-inspired kicks on Instagram. In the image, we can see that most of the silhouette remained relatively unchanged.

From photos, we observe that the Mars Yard 2.5 will get the usual white nylon tongue, brown overlays, red Swoosh and white Nike Free-like midsole. However, in place of mesh are rip-stop-like translucent panels in the toe box and midfoot panels.

Another major change is the black outsole that stretches up to the toe box, covering a section of it. This design cue largely resembles the outsoles on Jack Purcell x Converse sneakers.

Nike’s collaboration with designer Tom Sachs is one of constant improvements and updates. Inspired by NASA and space exploration, the very first Nike Mars Yard was launched in 2012, which didn’t live up to its creators’ expectations. Five years later, Nike and Sachs released the Mars Yard 2.0, which addressed the durability issues of its predecessor. The Mars Yard 2.5, which is rumored to drop this year-end, is the fourth iteration of the Mars Yard series.
