New Balance marks the 990’s 40th anniversary by partnering up with Ronnie Fieg. The duo will release the first four models made in this series: 990V1, 990V2, 990V3, and 990V4. Each of which will be released one day after another with the 990v4 dropping on Fieg’s birthday.
Fieg references his past collaborations with New Balance over the last decade to derive the colorways of these four sneakers. The Dusty Rose was inspired by a prior 990v2 release. The 990v2 takes its colorway from the 997.5 Cyclades. Next, the Kith founder revives the 1600 Daytona in the form of the 990v3. Lastly, the 990v4 is a nod to the 2018 collaboration between Kith and Japanese label, United Arrows and Sons based on the 997.
Fieg wants everyone, most importantly his daughter, to join in on his 40th birthday celebration. The 990v4, which drops on his birthday, will arrive in a full-size run – including infant, toddler, preschool and adult sizing. As he wrote in an Instagram post announcing the drop, “needed to make sure my daughter was taken care of 😏”.
The shoes will drop starting from June 15. Starting off with 990V4, United Arrows and Sons dropping on June 15, 990v3 Daytona coming on June 16, 990v2 Cyclades on June 17, and lastly, 990v1 Dusty Rose on June 18.
New Balance’s focus on quality and consistency has allowed the 990 line to remain a mainstay for generations. Whether for a dad in suburbia or a model in Paris, the New Balance 990 is built to suit all lifestyles.
