Wanton Noodle Bar, a fresh and cozy noodle bar concept at the heart of Amoy Street, will be opening its doors to the public from next Monday, June 29th. An ideal place for a quick lunch, hearty dinner or even a late night supper (it opens till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays), Wanton Noodle Bar actually has a storied history despite being the newest kid on the block.

Remember the iconic Seng’s Wanton Noodle stalls at Dunman Food Centre and Bedok South Food Centre? Chef and entrepreneur Benson Ng acquired the business last year, and together with childhood friend Brandon Teo, head chef of Pluck, they started Wanton Noodle Bar, serving up one of Singapore’s most iconic hawker fare jazzed up with a wealth of additional ingredients.

Wanton Noodles with Char Siew

The culinary experience is as local as it gets, with familiar wanton noodles in its simplest form, complemented by char siew (sliced barbequed pork) and wantons (meat dumplings) that’ easy to appreciate. Do note that there’s separate lunch and dinner menus, so plan your visit wisely.

Lunch consists of three options: Wanton Noodles with Char Siew, Wanton Noodles with Roasted Pork Belly or Power Wanton Noodles, a daily special that comes with a seasonal item. Ask the chef to find out what they have. Those who need a mid-day tipple will be pleased to know that the bar is open, and serves up a mean Modern Times Coffee Stout too.

Roasted Pork Belly
BBQ Char Siew
Batalong Egg with Spicy Mayo
Slow Braised Pig Trotters

The dinner menu is deconstructed and more extensive, thanks to a bunch of additional side dishes. Start off with a delicious bowl of plain noodles dressed in oil and add premium sides such as boiled or fried wantons, slow braised trotters and even batalong egg with spicy mayo. Portions are generous and will not disappoint. The best part? Each bowl of noodles and platter of side dish comes with crispy and sinful pork lard.

Don’t let its looks deceive you, this cup of chrysanthemum tea packs a sweet and potent punch

But fret not, the fair selection of drinks will make you forget the calories you gained. In keeping with the traditional vibe of the food, we suggest you order the Ju Hua, a pot of vodka-based chrysanthemum tea cocktail, to wash the food down and set in that warm fuzzy feeling.

Wanton Noodle Bar is located at 52 Amoy Street and operates from 11am – 11pm on Mondays to Thursdays, 11am – 1am on Fridays, and 5pm – 1am on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. Head on to their website for more details.
