Cargos are an essential item in any streetwear head’s wardrobe. They’re a utilitarian’s dream – cargos come with lots of pockets and rugged construction, and they fit comfortably. What with the growing appreciation for the aesthetics of the ’90s and early 2000s, cargos are a must-have in 2021. To help you cop the perfect pair, we have created a streetwear guide to cargos, so you can nail the size and fit.
Originally created as workwear, cargo pants are meant to fit loosely. Cargos that fit too tightly will leave the pockets bulging out at the sides when filled. Not a great look.
For these reasons, don’t buy cargos that are too tight or slim-fitted. Go for cargos that are straight cut, or slim-cut at max, which should provide ample space to move about. The idea is to be able to stay comfortable in these pants all day.
Since cargos tend to come in practical neutral shades, it should be relatively easy to style them. Black, khaki, dark green and navy blue cargos are easy to match with the tees or jackets that are already in your wardrobe. Cargos aren’t the kind of gear that will leave you having to change up your entire wardrobe.
To that end, since cargos tend to come in looser fits, we recommend either going for oversized tees or layering on a jacket or flannel. A tight tee could make your legs look too big and your body too stumpy. With cargos, make sure the shirt and outwear align with the width of the cargos.
