After its immensely successful Air Max 90 drop in late 2019, Undefeated is back with another collab using the silhouette. This time, the Undefeated x Nike Air Max 90 sees stylistic changes that bring the classic sneaker into 2020.
The overall form of the sneaker remains relatively unchanged. The uppers are mostly leather, with mesh lining at the toe box and heel. The mid and top eyelets are made from a soft plastic, and are set next to a mesh tongue. Overall, the shape of the sneaker remains familiar.
However, dotted around the sneaker are tweaks by Undefeated that help the sneaker stand out. Moving from the top, the tongue tab now bears the Undefeated logo rather than the usual Nike Air Max tag. Further down, we see that the Swooshes on the lateral and medial side have been lowered and enlarged. The Swooshes are also made from suede, in contrast to the leather that surrounds it.
To make space for the Swoosh, the leather mudguards have been removed. This provides a much cleaner look. Moving towards the bottom of the laces, the streetwear brand added a special checkered overlay around the eyelets.
The midsoles get one of the more subtle changes. It’s made from translucent rubber with opaque panels painted on at the forefoot and heel. This is most evident when you look at the outsoles – you can see the bottom of the uppers outlined. The Air Max branding is also added to the forefoot – which might have been inspired by the Air Max Plus released late 2019.
The Undefeated x Nike Air Max 90 is rumored to drop in Spring 2020 in “Platinum”, “Black” and “Blue” colorways. Stay tuned for updates on its Singapore release.
