Under Armour Sportsmask Featherweight: Worth the upgrade?

Under Armour has unveiled the Sportsmask Featherweight, a new iteration of their sought-after Sportsmask that launched in 2020. Here’s why the upgrade might be worth it.

Masks are here to stay and Under Armour knows that. That’s why they have further refined the technology and design of their sought-after Sportsmask called the Sportsmask Featherweight. Here’s our review of UA’s newest mask.

Fit: Like its predecessor, the Sportsmask Featherweight comes in various sizes ranging from XS to XXL. A thin ISO-Chill fabric is used to form the elastic bands — per our experience with 2020 version, the mask will stretch over time as it runs through washes. So, if you find your measurements cross between two sizes, we would recommend going for the smaller of the two as it is bound to stretch out over time.

Aesthetic: This is where the biggest improvements come in. Calling the 2020 version bulky is an understatement. The new Sportsmask Featherweight is not only 40% lighter but is more form-fitting. Under Armour has been able to shed all this weight without changing its signature three-layered construction. The Sportsmask Featherweight looks so much better without compromising on performance.

Comfort: Since the materials and technologies are unchanged, the 2021 version is just as comfortable as the 2020 version. The molded exterior helps keep the mask off your face and the open cell foam prevents moisture from passing through the mask – a combination that makes Under Armours masks some of the most breathable fabric options on the market. The ISO-Chill fabric that is used on the interior keeps your face feeling cool even through the most intense workouts.

Users of the 2020 version will notice the addition of extra plush fabrics on the nose bridge. This seems to address some of the discomforts caused by the molded metal bands within the mask. Besides the reduction in weight and size, this small change really helps make Under Armour Sportsmask Featherweight a comfortable all-day wear.

Conclusion: The Under Armour Sportsmask Featherweight fixed one of the biggest compromises of its 2020 predecessor – its bulky design. The 2021 refresh offers up the same breathability and comfort in a slim, form-fitting silhouette. Plus, it is now rated to provide SPF50+ sun protection. At just S$29 apiece, compared to S$35 for its predecessor, the Under Armour Sportsmask Featherweight is definitely worth the upgrade. You can cop yourself a piece or two at Underarmour.com.
