Youths in Balaclava, a Photobook About the Singaporean Design Group

Youths in Balaclava, a group of young fashion designers from Singapore, caught the attention of photographer Ryan O’Toole Collet.

Ryan O’Toole Collet’s photos of Youths in Balaclava have been compiled into a book titled Youths in Balaclava. It retails at Dover Street Market stores along with a t-shirt designed by the Singapore-based crew.

The idea for the book came when O’Toole Collet visited Singapore to shoot for the launch of Dover Street Market Singapore in July 2017. Youths in Balaclava is the photographer’s documentation of the one week he spent with in Singapore with the fashion collective.

The photos see the cohort shot in various settings from eateries to container yards, painting vividly the ennui of youth and the frustration that arises from urban living – which can sometimes be felt more acutely growing up in a place like Singapore.

A commemorative t-shirt (S$90) has been released along with the photobook (S$58), and both retail across Dover Street Market stores.
