Footwear drops: Nike launches into May with four strong releases

Along with the Air Fear Of God 1 “String”, Nike is dropping three Jordans you won’t want to miss out on.

New Balance hits back with a military-inspired 992 collaboration with WTAPS.

Nike is going into May hard, with four strong releases, one of which is the Air Fear Of God 1 “String”, a follow up to the “Off Noir” colorway that dropped last week. The “String” first grabbed our attention when Jerry Lorenzo revealed that the sneaker was inspired by the Reebok Question – an unorthodox move.

But Nike is not the only one making a splash in May. New Balance hits back with the release of the WTAPS x New Balance M992WT. The sneaker fuses the design languages of both brands, resulting in a modern, refined dad shoe.

Air Jordan 4 “Orange Metallic”
May 1

The Air Jordan 4 looks good in almost any colorway, and the new Air Jordan 4 “Orange Metallic” is no exception. The sneaker is predominantly white, with hints of orange at the top eyelets, tongue tab, insole, Jumpman logos and Air Unit. The super clean sneaker is a must-cop for your summer fits and is probably the easiest pick up on this list.

New Balance x WTAPS M992WT
May 1

New Balance continues its tradition of merging its design language with that of its collaborators – creating sneakers that are truly representative of both brands. Their latest collaboration sees a merger of the classic New Balance grey with WTAPS’ military color schemes.

The mix of sand and green in the upper and hits of bright orange in the midsole are a direct reflection of the military influence, while the grey paneling seen on the mesh and tongue is a clear ode to the New Balance shoes of a time before this. Being “Made in America”, you can expect the sneaker to be constructed from high-quality suede and mesh, with New Balance’s finest craftsmanship (more about that in our New Balance deep dive).

Jordan Delta “Vachetta Tan”
May 1

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Jordan Delta “Vachetta Tan” looks strikingly similar to the Nike Craft Mars Yard shoe. The Jordan Delta borrows a very similar combination of brown and red on the upper attached to a cream outsole. The main difference in this iteration is the greenish mesh used on the tongue. Though it isn’t exactly the same, if you love the vibe of the Mars Yard, but don’t want to fork out thousands for a pair on resale, the Jordan Delta “Vachetta Tan” might an excellent alternative.

Air Fear Of God 1 “String”
May 2

Jerry Lorenzo is releasing a brand new colorway of the Air Fear Of God 1 called the “String”. This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the sneaker – FOG released a lookbook which featured the sneaker earlier this year. The lookbook drew inspiration from the Reebok Question, a classic court sneaker that has recently received quite a bit of love. The two-tone Air Fear Of God 1 “String” keeps most of the sneaker unchanged, with a leather and mesh upper set atop the full Zoom midsole, so you can expect the usual comfort and fit.

Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red”
May 2

The Air Jordan 5 is returning in the OG “Fire Red” colorway. It retains almost every bit of detail from the original. This includes the 3M tongue, full white leather upper, red jet fighter inspired flamed on the midsole and icy blue outsole panels. The only detail missing is the embroidered “23” on the heel. The Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” is another retro sneaker that is a must-cop if you’re a true Jordan fan.
