The Black KAWS x Air Jordan 4s dropped earlier today as a Cyber Monday exclusive via the KAWS website.
Interestingly, the website made it a point to call out resellers. The Lottery Terms state:
“Purchase for Personal Use Only
You may purchase products only for personal use and not for resale. By placing your order, you certify that you are purchasing products for personal use only and not for resale. We reserve the right to refuse orders for any reason without explanation.”
In any case, the ballot went on only for 15 minutes before the lottery page stopped collecting ballots for the shoe.
Reselling gone too far?
This isn’t the first time the creator of a product or a sneaker retailer has had to step in to actively deter resellers.
In April this year, Singapore sneaker retailer Limited Edt decided not to issue boxes or receipts for its release of the Cream White Yeezys.
The unconventional method raised some eyebrows amongst the Singapore sneaker community, but Limited Edt maintained that the method was devised so that the drop only draws customers who genuinely wanted to purchase a pair for personal use.
Do you think resellers deserve a fair chance at drops or should producers/designers/retailers do everything they can to deter resllers? Leave your thoughts on the issue in the comments below.
