Chinese New Year 2017 Sneaker Releases: A Roundup

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, we’ve rounded up some sneakers, themed around the Year of the Rooster, that you can show off when visiting family and friends.

Adidas

The Three Stripes could possibly have the biggest Chinese New Year range of sneakers for this year, using a myriad models like the Tubular Radial, Dame 3, EQT Support 93/16, Superstar and Ultra Boost 3.0. All the sneakers contain some element of the New Year, be it through rooster graphics or the red celebratory colors.

Converse

Both the high and low top versions of the Chuck Taylor All Star 2 shoe feature rooster feather graphics on the upper. While the graphics for the high top come in dark grey and black hues, those for the low top arrive in blue with some red streaks.

Jordan

The Air Jordan 12 may not be the hottest AJ to come to mind, but it’s the silhouette of choice for Chinese New Year 2017. Following closely the “Taxi” colorway from 2013, Jordan Brand updates the look with new textures on the mudguard and heel tab, a Chinese New Year logo on the tongue and insole, and a fully reflective upper.

Nike

Not to be left out, Nike has opened up several Chinese New Year design options on its NIKEiD customization platform recently made available in Singapore and Malaysia. Limited to the Air Force 1 Low model, the Chinese New Year edition sees the shoes decked in metallic gold foil swirl and floral designs atop five upper color choices.

Reebok

Also taking inspiration from the rooster, Reebok outfits its Insta Pump Fury with an eggshell leather upper that has feathered textile detailing. The pump button is imprinted with a rooster motif, and the heel counter comes in iridescent blue with gold embroidery symbolizing Chinese culture.

Vans

Designed by Shanghai-based footwear designer Kim Kiroic, Vans’ Year of the Rooster collection is a showcase of a rooster’s lifecycle. Each design in the Chinese New Year collection traces the fowl’s journey from egg to adult through design elements like nude leather on the Old Skool representing the egg, and a three-color kilted Slip-On to mirror the rooster’s tail feathers.
