Drake announced on Instagram that his So Far Gone mixtape is now available on streaming platforms for the first time. The Canadian rapper also took the opportunity to reminisce on the early stages of his career in the post. The lengthy caption paid homage to the individuals involved, which included Drake’s OVO crew, Omarion and LeBron James. But it was the mention of Kanye West which surprised most.
The pair’s ongoing feud is no secret. From Drake’s beef with Pusha T to Kanye’s bizarre Twitter outburst, the relationship seemed tattered. But in his celebratory post, Drake made sure to acknowledge Kanye’s contributions in his career and his influence on hip-hop music. But despite having nice things to say, he also couldn’t help but poke fun at Kanye’s Twitter antics.
“@kanyewest a decade ago I rapped over your beat cause you just made the best shit and even though you stay wildin on twitter these days I will never forget what you contributed to the game and my career,” Drake said in his caption. Whether their relationship has taken a turn for the better remains to be seen.
Since So Far Gone, Drake’s career has blossomed. His chart-topping tracks have broken numerous records, and he was the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2018. His recent Grammy Award for Best Rap Song is a testament to his widespread commercial success. Take a trip down memory lane and listen to the mixtape that started it all.
