Hollywood’s most bankable action star looks increasingly likely to play a famed comic book superhero. See the full story here.
In an interview for his upcoming movie Hercules, Hollywood action star Dwayne Johnson was asked about talks between him and DC Comics over starring in a superhero movie adaptation.
Johnson gave a pretty long, roundabout response which included shooting down rumors of him playing Green Lantern. But the most electrifying man did say that “there’s a character out there that we’re gonna announce very soon” and that “he has the power of Superman, he can throw down…just say the word”.
Fanboys will recognize that Johnson was likely referring to Shazam, also known as Billy Batson. The character’s powers rival that of Superman and activate whenever teenager Batson yells the magic word “Shazam!”, turning him from ordinary human to extraordinary hero.
Unlike other Hollywood actors, Johnson already possesses a muscular body and would not have to spend hours in the gym going from skinny to shredded in order to achieve a superhero’s physique. The actor is also no stranger to action scenes, having had a background in professional wrestling and having been in a staggering number of action blockbusters.
We can’t wait for the official announcement and are putting our money on it being made at the famed San Diego Comic-Con 2014 that’s happening between 24 to 27 July. Expect more exciting news from rival company Marvel Comics as well when they unveil more goodies surrounding next summer’s blockbuster, Avengers: The Age of Ultron.
