FENTY PUMA by Rihanna SS17: From Tea Party to Treadmill

The FENTY PUMA by Rihanna SS17 collection that was shown at Paris Fashion Week yesterday was inspired by the thought: “What would Marie Antoinette wear to the gym?”

The FENTY PUMA by Rihanna SS17 Collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week yesterday was athleisure taken to new heights. Featuring an assortment of apparel and accessories in a palette of pink, purple and green, the collection is reminiscent of a Spring day at the Versailles Garden.

The theme for this collection was pretty much fancy atheleisure, or, in accordance to creative director Mademoiselle RiRi – what Marie Antoinette would wear to the gym. This collection has been a long time coming, with Rihanna’s CR Fashion Book cover as a teaser of sorts.

The show was livestreamed worldwide exclusively through TIDAL, and RiRi showed them how it’s done. The show went on without a hitch – something another musician-turned-designer could certainly learn a thing or two from.

The collection was a total turnaround from the dark and vampy tones of AW16. While the oversized cuts and lace-up details remain, they are now combined with pearls, satin corsets (yes, even for the dudes) and slip dresses. Rihanna added in her own flair with looks that exude sex appeal, in a classy and gym-ready way, of course.

Model Jourdan Dunn sported a nude two-piece that set off her skin tone wonderfully. The look comprises a lace-up cropped bustier and flared bottoms with matching lace-up detailing running up the sides.

This fan seen on Imaan Hammam and Rihanna herself, is a definite cop. The accessory is great whether for hiding our face after saying something we shouldn’t have or to stylishly fan ourselves after delivering a skillful burn. It’s all about that multi-purpose lifestyle.

Another standout piece is this witty layering of a slip dress over an oversized hoodie. If you look closely, the dress isn’t actually worn on top of the hoodie but rather, is attached to it. We still can’t quite figure out how it works, but this is attention grabbing to say the least.

Rihanna made sure to pay attention to details as well. Check out the cap on Issa Lish, with Puma’s logo printed across the netted veil. The cap itself is a modern take on traditional veiled hats, which is in keeping with the tea party to treadmill theme.

Another accessory item that caught our eye was this pink buckled choker on a male model in an otherwise all green get-up with floral and lace-up detailing.

The AW16 fur slides were a total hit with the masses, and it seems that they have been modified to suit the oncoming season with a new colorway, topped with a silk bow to match.

If you missed the livestream yesterday, here’s the whole collection in 33 seconds.

If we were physically there we’d probably be yelling our heads off, pun totally intended. Sweating it out at the gym has never looked so attractive. Big ups to RiRi and the team for a successful Paris Fashion Week debut and we look forward to what she has planned for the next season.
