Nike has confirmed it will be dropping the yellow colorway in Singapore through Nike SNKRS on July 24. On the same date, the green variant will drop through select skate stores.
The orange colorway (not pictured) will be an FTC exclusive release on July 18. We can’t say for sure that it will be available to shoppers in Singapore.
Features of the shoe
The sneaker emulates three of the band’s signature bear emblems – the green, yellow and orange bear. The sneakers receive suede and faux fur uppers that are color-matched to the individual bears. Accent colors and the frayed Swoosh draw inspiration from the fur collars on each. The bear icons make a guest appearance on the tongue of each sneaker.
There are a few hidden details, which include Grateful Dead’s logo appearing on the underside of the sock liner, the stash pocket within the tongue and the the word “Nike” embroidered on the heel tab.
Bear and Bodecker
The collaboration draws parallels between the late Sandy Bodecker’s impact on Nike SB and what the bears represent to Grateful Dead. Both Bodecker and the band’s audio engineer, Bear, were the lifelines to Nike SB and the Grateful Dead, respectively.
Bear was considered the benefactor of the Grateful Dead. With his help, the members of the band were able to quit their day jobs and launch their music careers. He was also the one who designed the band’s bear icons. Bodecker, head of Nike SB, played a major role in the rise of the brand division and solidifying the brand’s presence in the skate scene.
