A 17-year-old was killed over a pair of Air Jordan sneakers. The murder took place Tuesday, June 6.
According to Associated Press, the teenager was shot to death near a Detroit high school. He suffered gunshots to his head and chest. His 21-year-old passenger was also wounded during the incident.
They initially picked up a third man and were driving to another location when a fight broke out in the vehicle, sometime on Tuesday afternoon. The man they picked up fled the scene after the shooting.
Police have recovered two guns, and the case is still ongoing.
Yahoo states that sneaker related crimes have been growing since the 1980s. Recent cases include a robbery involved US$14,000 worth of Nike sneakers as well as a bust involving half a million pairs of fake Converse, Nike, and Vans.
