Some exciting new features include a laser-projected basketball court, Singapore’s first indoor cycling track, and a 380-seat performance theater.

Closed in 2016 for renovations, Funan has always been associated with all things IT. That will soon change once the refurbished mall reopens its doors in late 2019. Having already seen a preview at its Experiential Showsuite opening, here are five reasons why we’re excited for the new Funan.

1) Smarter shopping options for customers

Too lazy to make a trip to the supermarket? The mall will make grocery shopping a breeze thanks to its online-to-offline supermarket. Simply select the products you wish to purchase online and head over to the drive-through concierge to pick them up.

Oh, and if you’re worried about your food turning bad, don’t fret—climate-controlled lockers are readily available to keep your produce nice and fresh for the journey home.

2) Attend workshops and classes by local creatives in the “Tree of Life”

Learn how to craft leather pouches or make your very own terrarium by attending the many workshops, conducted by local creatives, in the mall’s “Tree of Life”. This multi-level centerpiece will house a variety of open spaces and studios, promoting a new form of retail and social learning experience to customers.

Local designers and makers can teach and promote their craft in these spaces, which members of the public can book to attend. Who knows, you might even pick up a new hobby whilst shopping.

3) Singapore’s first indoor cycling track

In support of Singapore’s initiative of becoming a car-lite society, an indoor cycling track will be integrated into the mall’s design.

The first of its kind in Singapore, the ground floor will have multiple access points and slopes to safely allow both cyclists and pedestrians to enter the building. There will even be lockers and showers for cyclists to freshen up after their rides. Once cleaned up, cyclists can even look forward to specialty bike stores and cafes.

4) State-of-the-art sports facilities

Fancy a game of basketball or futsal with friends? You can enjoy them both thanks to the new sports facilities found within the mall’s premises. For basketballers, there will be a laser-projected court for you to shoot hoops. As for futsal players, there’s a rooftop court waiting for you to score.

If ball games aren’t your thing, perhaps Climb Central’s 50-lane, 15-meter high indoor rock climbing wall might interest you. In addition to these exciting new facilities, there will also be a 25-meter swimming pool and a gym for you to up your fitspo game.

5) Catch live performances at W!ld Rice

If you love local theater productions, you’ll be pleased to know that W!ld Rice, Singapore’s leading professional theater company, will be making Funan its new home. An intimate 380-seat theater will be built, and it’ll be Singapore’s first theater within a commercial complex that is managed by a theater company.
