Nike and Converse sue nearly 600 websites: Warren Lotas hasn’t been the only person catching the attention of Nike’s and Converse’s legal team. Earlier this week, both brands filed a sweeping lawsuit against nearly 600 websites and social media pages for infringing on their trademarks and selling counterfeit versions of their products.
In their complaint, Nike and Converse have launched claims against 589 websites and 676 social media pages for intentionally replicating their trademarks and selling counterfeit products in order to capitalize on their popularity. Specifically, Nike and Converse claim that the defendants have been knowingly operating a “counterfeit scheme” over the last twelve months through 42 networks spread across China, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and other foreign territories.
Nike and Converse don’t play. In 2014, Converse sued more than 30 companies for replicating their iconic Chuck Taylor, among which were major retailers like H&M, Walmart and Kmart. Nike’s latest suit is in addition to their list of litigations against Skechers for replicating their sneaker designs and Warren Lotas for creating bootleg Dunks (incidentally, we recently discussed bootlegs versus rip-offs at length).
Simply put, don’t ever mess with Nike and Converse.
