P.S The sizing tips and styling notes are still applicable to any GR Air Max 1 – so don’t go away!
The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 is a testament to the quality of construction that Nike is capable of.. Every panel is made out of high quality materials, whether it’s the mesh, leather or nubuck we’re talking about. Even the sock liner is constructed out of plush fabric, making it incredibly cozy on-feet.
Its overall shape and paneling are more true to the OG Air Max 1 – many of which were criticized for looking too boat-like. That is till you make your way down to the wavy mudguard that circles around the entire upper. It’s a simple change that makes it stand out, and without drawing too much attention to itself.
The true to the OG accuracy of the sneaker’s construction and design continues on to the midsole which does mean it feels like an ‘80s runner underfoot. It’s not uncomfortable, but it’s decidedly stiff in comparison to more modern Air Max silhouettes.
The midsole needs time to be broken in before it feels comfortable, similar to the midsoles on New Balance 990s. Eventually, you will feel the propulsion of the Air unit, but like all good things, time is needed.
The insole is enhanced with a slight curve upwards around the midfoot, which means it’s good for those whose feet require arch support. It’s not the most structured support but it does minimize over-pronation.
The outsole bears the classic segmented design that has been used on Air Max 1s for ages. That means protruding lugs at the forefoot, flat midfoot and a reinforced heel. This tried and tested combination should provide sufficient traction in most conditions.
The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 fits true to size compared to many modern Nike sneakers. The surprisingly roomy forefoot also makes it very comfortable for people with wide feet, so you don’t have to go a half-size up. Though the plush lining may make it feel a little tight if you use thicker socks, the Air Max 1 never gets too uncomfortable.
The sneaker has a narrow silhouette and a very retro, layered look. This means it works well with tapered or fitted apparel like slim-fit jeans or form-fitted pants.
If you do want to pair it with straight-cut denim or baggy cargos, consider folding it above the ankle. This would prevent pants from overwhelming the sneaker and making it look smaller than it actually is.
