This week’s picks, which includes music from hometown heroes Perk Pietrek and Ysa Yaneza, are tracks you can certainly get down to.
Hot on the heels of a wicked single off Far East Movement’s brednbutter record label, Perk Pietrek dishes a new EP titled “I Believe“. Its lead track of the same name is Perk at his finest, with wicked energy and looping beats that keep us riveted. Beware: You might find yourself hitting the loop button on repeat.
A 21-year-old Singaporean currently living it up in Chicago, everything Ysa Yaneza knows about music production was self-taught. She wrote, produced, mixed and mastered her debut single, “Tea”, alongside local EDM producer Jeff Hue (who has also worked with the likes of Gentle Bones). The track is a dream pop-infused mix, offset with brassy synth and elements of future bass that complement Ysa’s vocals.
Swedish singer Bishat is back to deliver a follow-up to her pop ballad that was released three months ago. Unlike her previous track that was categorized under “dark soul,” this is definitely a more uptempo jig, with an electronic Flume-like beat to back it up.
While this track has been tagged “#reggae” on SoundCloud, there’s so much more to it. The track showcases Alxnder London’s varied musical palette that ranges from alternative soul to electronica and his soulful voice completes the picture.
Che Ecru seems to be a dizzying mix of all things good: Bryson Tiller, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Anderson Paak. And yet, the future R&B star has a little something special that sets him apart. Perhaps it’s because he wrote, produced, sang, designed, mixed and mastered the track all by himself. You tell us.
Tira Lee is Straatosphere’s resident aux cord heaux. She’s in-charge of pulling together nifty mixes each week to spread dope tracks and good vibes to the public. In her free time, she partakes in something distressingly referred to as academia and often experiences an existential crisis of sorts. She’s also paid to put pretty clothes on pretty people sometimes.
