The sneaker borrows elements and technologies initially developed for the Nike Space Hippie collection and yet to retain the feel of the traditional Chuck Taylor upper, Converse used a morphlon blend that mixes recycled polyester and post-industrial textile waste scraps.
Most of Converse’s effort went into refining their implementation of the Crater Foam in the midsole. Crater Foam, a combination of Nike Grind and foam, expands differently from traditional materials used in models like the Chuck 70. In the final product, the Crater Foam is used to accurately reconstruct the toe cap, foxing tap and pinstripe. Combined with the morphlon blend upper, the Chuck Taylor All Star Crater bears an undeniable resemblance to the classic Chuck Taylor – an indication that their efforts paid off.
