The announcement was made on Twitter on August 27. The post is a photo of Lamar in the Cortez with the caption “Cortez. Since day one.”
We can’t say this announcement comes as a huge surprise since rumors of Lamar fronting the Cortez have been swirling since April this year, when he was spotted wearing the Nike Cortez at Coachella.
It wasn’t too long ago last year that Lamar was the ambassador for Reebok Classics. He sent fans into a tizzy when he debuted the Reebok Classic Leather Lux at the AMAs in November 2016.
But all that’s about to change with his latest tweet. Lamar has let the world know he’s now on “#teamnike”, along with the likes of model Bella Hadid, who joined Nike in November 2016.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Nike Cortez, a shoe originally developed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman for runners. It’s the first Nike to offer visible technology and one that has remained an endearing pop culture icon. Even Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) rocked Cortezes, for crying out loud.
