Why is the Nike Vomero 5 popular?
This isn’t the first time the Nike Vomero has been in the spotlight. The first time the sneaker really made people sit up was when A-Cold-Wall dropped an unorthodox collaboration Vomero in 2018. The unusual decision to add a massive heel clip elevated it to “favorite sneaker” status among fans of both brands.
To capitalize on the attention, Nike went on to release the Nike Vomero 5 Anthracite in early 2019 and it sold out quickly. For over four years, it was the only monotone option available in the market.
This year, in response to the mass appeal of the Y2K look, Nike has finally re-released the Vomero 5 in the Anthracite colorway, and it’s looking as good as we remember. Excitingly, the brand has also introduced the Vomero 5 in a new and equally good looking colorway called Vast Grey.
Nike Vomero 5: a runner turned Y2K aesthetic dad shoe
Though it has a chunkier profile, one of the hallmarks of the Nike Vomero 5 is that it’s incredibly lightweight. That’s because the shoes, first introduced in 2011, were designed for running.
Some factors that contribute to its lightness is an upper that is constructed predominantly of mesh. A perforated plastic heel counter offers just enough rigidity to keep the foot in place, without tipping the weight scales.
The upper sits on a light foam material that brings to mind the cushiness of the base of the Nike Roshe Run.
Overall, not enough for running, but more than comfortable for going about your day and looking stylish while you’re at it.
