Astronauts, an R&B/pop quintet from Singapore, debuts their single “Get Close”, a groovy track that will brighten up somber mornings.
Released January 16th, 2017, “Get Close” has already topped the Alternative Music song chart on iTunes.
And it’s easy to see why. The track features a groovy, cheery beat that amps up the feel-good factor. Most recently, “Get Close” also inherited a quirky, upbeat music video (above) to accompany the track.
The band describes its debut single as the “antithesis to thoughtful ballads”, as the quintet believes that music doesn’t always have to be emotional. Further, the track is said to be meant to showcase the band’s love of music and good times.
If you’ve never heard of Astronauts, here’s a quick backstory to the talented newcomers: the five-piece band first burst into the scene after being crowned champions in the Stärker Music Carnval 2016, edging out three other competitors. They were first discovered through VOLT: Amplifying Local Talents initiative, a weekly showcase dedicated to uncovering emerging Singapore talents.
If you like Astronauts’ music, the good news is that there’ll be more from the band in the year to come. The newcomers have already performed at Esplanade’s Baybeats Festival, 100 Bands Festival, and the Singapore Night Festival. It has also shared the stage with notable Singapore acts like Disco Hue and Charlie Lim.
