Millions of eyes were on the unreleased J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 collaboration, which made its live debut at the Superbowl halftime show.

Update: May 15, 11:45 am (Singapore time)
Due to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 is set to release during the 2020 holiday season. So hopefully, you can cop a pair by Christmas.

The singer is the first Latin artist in history with an Air Jordan 1 collaboration.

J Balvin’s career has skyrocketed in recent years and the global pop icon’s influence hasn’t gone unnoticed. Last year saw major collaborations between the singer and clothing brands Guess and Bape. But J Balvin is making moves early in 2020 with another unprecedented partnership lined up. This time, it will be a historic J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 collaboration – the first from a Latin artist. And the sneaker made a stellar on-feet debut as J Balvin performed alongside Jennifer Lopez at the Superbowl halftime show on February 3 (Singapore time) watched by millions of viewers.

Before J Balvin lit up the stage at one of the biggest sporting and television events in the world, he took to social media to show off the collaboration sneakers. A flurry of posts from friends and family who received an early pair were reposted on his Instagram account. The star himself posted a teaser image of the rainbow sneakers, which are a vivid representation of his vibrant persona. It’s a fitting follow up to his recent colorful clothing collaborations with Guess and Bape, and cover artwork with Takashi Murakami.

The J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 features all-over rainbow uppers coupled with details that won’t look out of place in an arts and craft experiment. The playful approach sees the sneaker lined in canvas, with raw jagged and rounded edges appearing on the toe guards, heels and side panels, as well as the ankle overlays. Further details include exposed tongues and co-branding on the tongue tabs featuring J Balvin’s smiley logo, which is also etched on the sneaker’s heel panel.

Expect more information about the J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 collaboration release dates soon. For now, check out the sneaker’s appearance at the Superbowl halftime show from the video embedded above.
