The Maison Martin Margiela x Converse collaboration pushes the envelope to reveal avant-garde, all-white sneakers in two silhouettes – the Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell sneakers. Here’s a closer look.
The first-time collaboration between Converse and French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela has resulted in the Chuck Taylor All Star and the Jack Purcell sneakers, each completely hand-painted in Maison Martin Margiela’s iconic white paint.
Covering all canvas, eyelets, laces and soles, they naturally crack and shed their outer coat of paint to reveal the original colors beneath. The more the sneakers are worn, the more their personality and color is revealed.
The styles are available in four colorways based on heritage colors from the Converse archives: red, black, navy, and Margiela-exclusive vintage yellow, and are lined in premium off-white leather.
“The Maison has always been obsessed with white; it is used as a layer to give an incognito feeling. A sort of poetry, with the passage of time, the shoe asserts itself,” says Maison Martin Margiela.
Maison Martin Margiela (est. 1988), known as a fashion house that walks its own path, often reinventing volumes, modifying shapes, changing the original use and movement of garments, and derailing the classic notions of fashion. Converse finds common ground as its philosophy is to become a platform for creativity.
The Converse x Maison Martin Margiela collection is part of the Converse First String, limited-edition collections that celebrate craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level. The sneakers will be available for purchase in Singapore from September 13th at Surrender. Suggested retail price is SGD$269.90.
