For those unaware, the Met Gala, also known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit is a fundraising event to help raise funds for the museum’s Costume Institute.
The exhibition, titled “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”, will feature a range of Kawakubo womenswear outfits, designed by Rei Kawabuko for Comme Des Garcons (source: Footwear News).
Rei Kawakubo happens to also be the founder of retail fashion company, Dover Street Market.
And yet, very few celebrities wore Comme Des Garcons to the Met Gala this year. Here’s a roundup of photos of the 12 celebrities who wore CDG we could find:
Pharrell’s wife Helen Lasichanch came dressed in a playsuit from the Comme Des Garcons Fall 2017 collection, Pharrell didn’t wore CDG jeans.
Tracee Ellis Ross, the daughter of the esteemed musician, Diana Ross, sports a gorgeous Comme Des Garcons dress in royal blue. New York Magazine rated the Black-ish actress’ CDG outfit as one of the best outfits to have graced the Met red carpet.
Rihanna schools the other celebrities with a petal-inspired dress from Comme Des Garcons. This is the second time the “Bad Habit” singer has slayed, after her iconic yellow fur trimmed dress by Chinese designer Guo Pei made headlines in 2015.
Channeling Snow White, model Anna Cleveland came dressed in a white mid-length CDG dress. Pretty sweet.
Hugh Jackman’s wife came dressed to the nines in a black Comme Des Garcons outfit. Jackman, however, did not.
Art director and fashion consultant Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea’s jacquard Commes Des Garcons two piece in olive and royal blue tones really hit it on the nose.
Bright red and royal blue never looked better. Husband and wife duo Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin were the second couple sporting outfits from Comme Des Garcons.
Menswear designer Rick Owens and his muse/wife Michele Lamy redefine minimalism in outfits by Comme Des Garcons.
