The teenager behind the “Damn Daniel” viral sensation has been gifted with free sneakers, music remixes and even an unexpected SWAT team visit.
A viral video of high school student Daniel Lara being teased by his best friend for his choice of daily outfits has become the latest meme to spread across the Internet.
Retweeted over 300,000 times, the “Damn Daniel” clip has put the spotlight on the teenager and shot him to stardom. Marriage proposals from complete strangers have streamed in, and classmates have weighed in on Daniel and cameraman Josh Holz’s lives in school.
Even music remixes like this have sprouted up, proving once again that the creativity of the Internet knows no bounds.
The plain white Vans that’s often shown and mentioned in the clip has also garnered immense attention, with eBay sellers cashing in the popularity by selling alleged pairs worn by the real Daniel at absurd prices. Ellen DeGeneres even brought Daniel onto her show, surprising him with a lifetime supply of Van sneakers.
But fame has its price, and in Daniel’s case, it’s a SWAT team paying him a visit following a prank call that the police received, claiming that Daniel had shot his mother with an AK-47.
Till the hype dies down and something else captures the people’s attention, good ol’ Daniel will just have to take the good with the bad and run along with it.
