Coming in as their third collaboration together, WTAPS and New Balance are set to drop a subtle and elegant rendition of the 990v6 in the classic gray and white colorway. Their first collaboration, the 992, was considered as one of the most exceptional sneakers of 2020. Subsequently, they delivered a second collection in 2021 based on the 990v2.
Looking at the side, the WTAPS 990v6 comes with a varying shade of gray all across the suede, nubuck and mesh upper. The “USA” graphic is also seen on the lateral side’s rear and subtle WTAPS branding replaces the US flag on heel and on the insoles. There is also the monochromatic New Balance tongue logo and a tri-colored ENCAP midsole with FuelCell cushioning. Considering that WTAPS is the second collaborator to reimagine the 990v6, it holds significance given that most special releases of this shoe originate from Teddy Santis’ curated “MADE in USA” line.
The New Balance 990v6 is a popular sneaker model from the American footwear brand New Balance. As part of the 990 series, the v6 version is the sixth iteration of the classic 990 shoe that has been updated with modern features and materials while retaining its signature design elements.
The New Balance 990 series is known for its focus on comfort, support, and durability, making it a favorite among sneaker enthusiasts and those seeking a reliable and stylish runner.
WTAPS is a Japanese streetwear brand founded in 1996 by Tetsu Nishiyama (aka TET). Its name comes from the military term “double taps,” reflecting its military-inspired style seen in the line of clothing and accessories. Known for quality, attention to detail, and minimalist designs, WTAPS incorporates military aesthetics into its collections, including jackets, hoodies, and pants with graphics and logos influenced by military uniforms.
The launch of the WTAPS x New Balance 990v6 drop is expected to be on August 25 in Japan with a retail price of ¥44,000 JPY (S$410). The sneaker is set to drop on WTAPS web store and GOAT. Check back in for more updates.
