It’s been 40 years since Back to the Future blazed a trail into cinemas in 1985. To commemorate the milestone, CASIO and Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) got behind the wheel to present the CA-500WEBF-1A, proving that when going for the timeless route, you ‘don’t need roads.’

The design

The CA-500 serves as the chassis for this model, equipped with its hallmark calculator function that has made it a perennial bestseller since the 1980s. The ‘Back to the Future’ CA-500WEBF-1A watch face takes its design cues from the DeLorean Time Machine’s taillights and ‘OUTATIME’ licence plate. They preside over the multicoloured buttons referencing the time circuits used to set the DeLorean’s destination date and time in the film.

The case back is engraved with a graphic of the flux capacitor (the fictional piece of technology in Back to the Future that makes the Time Machine work) while the buckle is engraved with the franchise’s logo.

For a special watch comes a special packaging. The CA-500WEBF-1A will be housed in a box designed to resemble a vintage videotape, a nod to the zeitgeist of the ‘80s whilst elevating the watch as a collector’s item.
