On the anniversary of the passing of my mentor Brother Mike, @OpenMikeChicago had one of it’s best nights yet. Thanks to @Korporate00 for speaking and thanks to @Jumpman23 for bringing 300 pair of unreleased 11s for the young creatives. Until next year… POWER TO THE PEOPLE…

According to Uproxx, the giveaway took place during an “Open Mike” session in Chicago on December 5.
“Open Mike” is a monthly event hosted by Chance The Rapper and organized in partnership with SocialWorks Chicago and Chicago Public Library. It aims to provide high school students the platform to “share, express and network with a 3-minute piece of their choice”. The event is named after Chance’s mentor, Mike Hawkins.

On the December 5 meet-up, each youth in attendance received a pair of then-unreleased Air Jordan 11 “Win Like ’96” sneakers.
The all-red AJ 11s saw a wider release on December 9, and the shoes are still available on Nike.com (S$309).
