The Visvim Christos, also known as the godfather of chunky sandals, is back in stock on Visvim’s online store and can be yours for US$720 (approx. S$991). This hefty price tag is justified by founder Hiroki Nakamura’s fine craftsmanship and the high-quality materials used, such as the ultralight EVA Phylon mid-soles and Vibram outsoles. The sandals also feature the signature Strap-Over-Wrap upper that is assembled using high-density nylon fabric. The Christo comes in black or olive, making it a minimalist sandal that pairs well with most outfits.
If this particular pair does not appeal to you, we have compiled four other alternatives that share a similar aesthetic, and may also save you a few extra bucks.
1) Universal Works x Birkenstock Zurich
S$125 at End Clothing
If you haven’t heard, Birkenstock is back in style. This is evident by the brand’s many recent collaborations with labels like Rick Owens, Valentino, and Opening Ceremony. The sandals above in particular spotlights Universal Works designer David Keyte’s take on the classic Zurich model. Utilizing different shades of suede, Keyte creates a monochromatic brown sandal that stays true to Birkenstock’s timeless quality and design. These are perfect alternatives to the Visvim Christos if you are looking for something that is less chunky and a little more formal-looking.
2) Puma x Han Kjøbenhavn Sandals
$95 (Approx. S$130) at YOOX
Available in beige and lead colorways, these Puma and Han Kjøbenhavn collaboration sandals fall perfectly within the category of chunky dad sandals. The Velcro straps with buckle closures give a snug fit, while the cushioned rubber sole provides the perfect bed for your foot to rest in. If you are looking for something that’s pure comfort, this would be it.
3) John Elliot x Suicoke Moto-Cab Sandals
S$339 at End Clothing
It would be difficult to mention alternatives to Visvim Christos without mentioning their close cousins – the Suicokes. Many Suicoke sandals feature a Christo-style strapped upper with a chunky sole. Also, a big selling point is its affordable pricing. A pair of Suicokes costs around one-third the price of a Christo.
The John Elliot x Suicoke sandals, in particular, offer a greater contrast to the Christos with its brighter color palette. This teal and silver pair is constructed with 3M reflective textile uppers and provides greater comfort with its adjustable Velcro straps.

4) Prada Buckle-Strap Velcro Technical mesh Slides
$530 (Approx. S$730) at Matchesfashion
Prada has been killing it lately with their recent collections and these sandals are no exception. Though they may seem like a combination of Suicoke’s sole unit and Christo’s upper, this minimalistic pair stands out with their fine construction. They feature technical mesh on the upper and a sturdy foam sole, creating the perfect lightweight and cozy pair of sandals. Other subtle details include the debossed logo on the buckles and strap labels.
