It has been over a century since Levi’s® 501®, the first classic denim jean, was created. Patented in 1873 by Levi Strauss & Co. and Jacob Davis, inventor of the blue jean, the 501® has come a long way. To celebrate its history and impact on style and culture, Levi’s® 501® Day 2021 is pulling out all the stops, and it’s all coming to screens very, very near you on May 20.
The Levi’s® 501® Day 2021 program takes place entirely online — it’s happening on YouTube, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitch and Clubhouse — where people go to get clued in on trends, culture and to build community these days.
While serious about owning its heritage, Levi’s® is committed to the denim lovers of today. On 501® Day, it takes the chance to introduce Levi’s® Originals, an exciting cohort of people from athletes to activists: Hailey Bieber, Naomi Osaka, Marcus Rashford, Emma Chamberlain, Barbie Ferreira, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jaden Smith, some of whom will feature on segments of the full-day program on May 20.
Also not to be missed are the live performances from the 501® Haus on YouTube Live by Kehlani, Eric Nam, Joyce Wrice, and Duckwrth.
Here are all the digital events taking place on May 20, 501® Day:
If Levi’s® is here to stay, then it needs to get with the program and minimizing its ecological impact is high on the agenda. On Levi’s® 501® Day 2021, you’ll learn more about the brand’s efforts towards making jeans more sustainable. Last month, for instance, it introduced “Buy Better. Wear Longer“, a campaign that encourages people to buy good quality denim that lasts for longer.
Where it comes to fashion, there’s really no real magic formula to reducing your carbon footprint except to buy well and get more wear out of every piece in your wardrobe. And with Levi’s® 501®, you’re getting quality honed over 148 years. Name us another denim brand that offers that — we’ll wait.

There are so many things I love about vintage. It’s kind of like you’re finding a one-of-a-kind piece when you’re buying vintage stuff and you have to treasure hunt a little bit but it’s also sustainable.
– Emma Chamberlain

Where to find her on Levi’s® 501® Day:
My first memory of a 501 jean was the cooler, older teenagers wearing them and having the high-waisted, slouchy look. I grew up in New York, so the vibe was very casual.
– Barbie Ferreira
Who: The number one women’s tennis player according to the Women’s Tennis Association. The Japanese athlete, who can come off as shy at first glance, is not afraid to take a stand for causes she believes in. The advice I would give to someone that wants to forge their own path would probably be, that everyone’s individuality makes them different and that’s what makes you special.

– Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
