LV x Nike AF1 auction raises US$25.3 million for scholarship

The first 200 pairs of the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force1 were auctioned off for more than US$100,000 per pair. Every cent is going towards Virgil Abloh’s ‘Post Modern’ scholarship fund.

The recently concluded Sotheby’s auction for 200 pairs of Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 was held from January 26 to February 8. All proceeds from the auction of these luxury-streetwear crossover kicks went to the late Virgil Abloh’s ‘Post Modern’ scholarship fund.

The sale amassed US$25.3 million in total sales. A men’s size 5 pair fetched the highest price — US$352,800. The men’s size 6.5 pair, which fetched the lowest price, still sold for a whopping US$75,600.

What makes the LV x Nike AF1 so special? The LV x Nike AF1 features LV’s signature monogram on leather, with the iconic Off-White words on the midsoles and laces. The AF1s were presented in an exclusive LV orange pilot case. It is also not known how many pairs of these luxury Air Force 1s will be released, and with the passing of Virgil Abloh, there may never be a repeat of such a drop.

These luxury Air Force 1s are not the first Nike kicks to be auctioned off for more than five figures. In headline-grabbing Sotheby’s auction held last year, Michael Jordan’s 1985 game-worn Nike Air Ship was sold for US$1.5 million.

There are other Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 shoes in the pipeline. While eight colorways were reserved for family and friends only, there are others lined up in the LV x Nike AF1 collection that will likely hit the stores soon. Stay tuned for more updates on the official release dates.
