In celebration of the 15th anniversary of its ‘Lunar’ foam technology, Nike has released the new Lunar Roam in the ‘Alabaster and Green Abyss’ colorway.
The Nike Lunar Roam is made up of an engineered mesh upper that allows for breathability with sections enhanced by TPU for durability. Magwire is built into the upper to hold the foot in place and ensure a secure fit. The main highlight is the thick Lunar foam that provides the plush comfort associated with Lunarlon, supported by rubber traction for all-terrain use. The combination of both contemporary design and comfort-focused performance makes it a go-to choice for everyday runners.
What came as a surprise for this release was Nike’s decision to revisit the vault and choose Lunar midsole technology to spearhead a brand new model. Before ZoomX and React, Lunarlon was the go-to for a wide selection of Nike performance runners. The Lunar technology was derived from the designers, Kevin Hoffer and Eric Avar, who wanted a cushioning system catering to long-distance runners and basketball players. They were inspired by the movements of weightless astronauts walking on the moon. They created a Lunar-equipped prototype in 2005, which eventually led to the usage of Lunarlon in the LunarGlide and the Hyperdunk.
The Lunar Roam is a refreshing take on a forgotten cushioning technology, reinventing it to suit modern-day design sensibilities and needs.
The Nike Lunar Roam retails for S$239 and is now available on Nike.com.
