Singapore Netflix viewers will be charged the same price as those in the States.
Even before its launch in Singapore next year, TV and movie streaming service Netflix has already garnered plenty of attention from entertainment junkies here.
According to Netflix chief communications officer Jonathan Friedland, the pricing for Netflix is likely to be US$8 (S$11) per month, similar to what viewers in the USA are currently paying.
He added that all exclusive content produced by Netflix, such as TV superhero series Daredevil and crime drama series Narcos, will be available to Singapore viewers. Non-exclusive content will depend on licensing.
“We are also going to have a much bigger selection of Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese drama in this part of the world. We have to learn what people really want, and curate the selection. We’re trying to have different things for different people, and create a really rich portfolio of content,” he said to reporters.
Preliminary discussions between Netflix and telcos such as Starhub and Singtel are also in the works, meaning that you may need to access Netflix via the telcos’ set-top boxes.
