Grey Day, happening on May 15, is New Balance’s way of celebrating its iconic grey colorway. Leading with the theme “worn by anyone”, the brand positions grey as something for everyone.
New Balance’s unique approach to sneakers: How New Balance makes shoes for everyone, from athletes to dads
In the lead up to Grey Day 2021, New Balance has lined up five drops presented across four silhouettes — the 327, 574, 57/40 and 991 — all in shades of grey.
The 327 in grey has remained one of the most coveted variants of the retro-futuristic sneaker. Its simple color combination on the angular silhouette made it an instant hit when it first hit shelves in 2020. It returns in limited quantities and will retail for S$179 at newbalance.com.sg and at New Balance Paragon.
The Grey Day 2021 574 will come in the Classic Grey or a limited edition that comes without the iconic lateral “N” insignia. Both versions will still sport the staple EVA midsole and ENCAP heel for all-day comfort. The classic grey 574 will retail for S$129 at newbalance.com.sg while the No “N” 574 goes for S$149 exclusively at New Balance Paragon.
The Grey Day 2021 edition of the 57/40 will come in a lush mix of grey suede, mesh and leathers. It will be available at select New Balance stores for S$189.
The most luxurious of the lot is the hand-crafted 991. Manufactured in the UK, these 991s are constructed with leather, suede, and mesh attached to a stable plush midsole. Larger men’s sizes will come with black accents while women’s will come with hits of emerald. They are available online and at select New Balance stores for S$329.
In keeping with its message that grey is for everyone, New Balance Singapore has decked “Uncle Chieng”, the ice-cream pushcart vendor who’s often stationed along Orchard Road in a full grey outfit. On May 15, catch Uncle Chieng and his grey cart and head to New Balance at Paragon to check out the Grey Day 2021 drops.
