Out of all the Nike-sponsored NBA athletes, Kyrie Irving seems to be on the swoosh’s good side. The Boston Celtics’ guard keeps getting special colorways and unique iterations of his signature shoe, from the latest “Ikhet” pair in collaboration with Concepts, to his Kyrie 3 “Mamba Mentality”. Nike has always found a way to incorporate the superstar’s on and off court passions into his sneakers with masterful storytelling. The Nike Kyrie 5 x Friends is no different as the guard’s favorite sitcom from the 90s get featured on his sneaker.
The sneaker takes inspiration from the show’s iconic logo: handwritten letters spelling out “FRIENDS” separated by red, blue and yellow dots. The Nike Kyrie 5 x Friends makes use of a black base accented with the aforementioned colors. We can see this on the flytrap lockdown system on the forefoot. The actual Friends logo can be found on the lateral side of the left sneaker just under the white swoosh, while a tag with Kyrie’s name in the same font can be found on the right sneaker. Friends branding can be found on the insole, and the sneaker is finished off with the same accent colors on the sole.
There are no official release details on the Nike Kyrie 5 x Friends at the moment, including if it will actually be a public release. Do watch this space for updates.
